Hiring the right talent to implement strategic initiatives designed to propel your business is imperative to a successful organization. Having an assiduous team of workers eager to perform is an employer’s aspiration. Candidates that eventually become employees often forget all about the charm they laid on during the interviewing process. Over time, some employees may begin to exhibit a complacent attitude that can influence the direction your company is heading. As an employer you have a responsibility to yourself, and your company to exercise a strict criteria when acquiring help. According to John Greathouse at Rincon Venture Partners (a venture capital firm that provides funding, and support for start-ups.) there are 4 basic employee archetypes entrepreneurs should be aware of:
The Superstar
Shows up every day ready to play
Requires low maintenance while maintaining high productivity.
Works effectively with high enthusiasm.
Hitting goals is their motivation.
May be considered for leadership roles as products launch.
Farm Team
Enthusiastic about the conpany, and project
Requires some maintenance with potential to become highly productive
Ability to eventually evolve into a “superstar” with the right training
May become influenced by “prima donnas” if they lack maturity
Waivers
Lacks initiative and enthusiasm
Low maintenance with low productivity
Does not take responsibility for their contribution in the team
Constantly complains about minor issues
Prima Donna
Outstanding performance on projects
Reguires high maintenance in exchange for high productivity
Works effectively on their own. Not a fan of team projects
May act inappropriately because they are aware of their power
Team building is an important strategy. Knowing employee archetypes increases your talent acquisition while maintaining a healthy employee turnover rate. The goal every entrepreneur should have is to hire superstars, and farm team employees. Combine these individuals to develop a solid farm team. Get rid of the waivers (who are poisonous to your business) while thinking smart about hiring prima donnas!
